Pearl Der

Pearl’s visual language encompasses a variety of mediums ranging from the spontaneity of watercolor to the luminosity of oils.  Her Eastern Oriental heritage intertwined with her fascination of the Old Masters has lead to her current painterly style and foray into hidden meanings of elements in artworks.

Koi are often a favoured subject as they embody perseverance, strength, courage and longevity yet at the same time have to ability to exude such grace of movement and peacefulness.  At times Pearl’s koi captivate you with their serenity and at other times it is their determination that holds your attention.

As Pearl paints she interprets the various nuances found in her choice of topic, whether it be koi or other subjects that call to her, by keeping in mind the play of light and shadow and always of course the emotional influence of colour.  It is this insightful application and understanding of colour action and reaction that adds a visually stimulating excitement to her artworks which can be found hanging in both private homes and corporate offices.

Pearl has been featured in solo and group exhibits at Northwest Originals Capital Ex, Edmonton fall art walk TU Gallery, Articulture City of St. Albert, Art in the Garden First Choice Nursery Morinville, Spotlight Gallery St. Albert, Art Vancouver 2015 and The Sooke Fine Arts Show 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2019.

Pearl can be found painting in the Botanical Arts City of St. Albert, Alberta or in the Westshore Community of Langford on Vancouver Island.
